The Role: Business Development Manager (Female)
MayPort Oil & Gas Limited is looking for a dynamic and experienced Female Business Development Manager to join the team. This role is key to driving the company’s growth, increasing market share and deepening client relationships in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the downstream sector.
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and a leader who can identify and grab new business opportunities, negotiate complex contracts and lead teams to hit revenue targets. This is an opportunity to shape the company’s direction and be part of Nigeria’s energy future.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Develop and execute business development strategies that support MayPort’s overall goals and growth aspirations.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs and competitor activity in the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas sectors.
- Drive initiatives to enter new markets and expand the company’s presence locally and regionally.
Client Relationship Management
- Build, maintain and grow relationships with key clients, industry partners and government agencies to create long term partnerships.
- Be the main point of contact for major clients to ensure their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
- Develop solutions that address client problems and add value to their operations.
Contract Negotiation and Partnership Development
- Negotiate high value contracts to get favourable terms that support MayPort’s profitability and strategic objectives.
- Identify and establish strategic partnerships and alliances that add to the company’s capabilities and market reach.
- Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure all agreements comply with regulations and company policies.
Market Intelligence and Competitive Analysis
- Track industry developments, regulatory changes and competitor activity to inform business decisions.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management, highlighting opportunities and risks.
- Use data to refine business development approach and improve bid win rates.
Bid and Proposal Management
- Manage the preparation, submission and follow up of bids and proposals for tenders and contracts.
- Ensure all submissions are competitive, compliant and delivered on time.
- Coordinate cross functional teams to gather technical, financial and legal inputs for bids.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, mentor and inspire the business development team to high performance and professional growth.
- Create a culture of collaboration, innovation and accountability within the department.
- Identify training needs and facilitate capacity building to upskill the team.
Compliance and Regulatory Coordination
- Ensure all business development activities are compliant with industry regulations and standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies like NUPRC, NNPC and NCDMB.
- Stay up to date with regulatory changes and advise management on implications for business.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
To measure success in this role the following KPIs will be monitored:
- Revenue Growth: Achieve and exceed revenue targets through business development initiatives.
- Client Acquisition: Secure new high value clients and deepen relationships with existing key accounts.
- Market Expansion: Expand business into new geographies and market segments.
- Bid Success Rate: Improve the percentage of successful bids and tenders submitted by the company.
- Team Performance: Develop a high performing business development team that meets or exceeds targets.
Candidate Profile
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Sales and Marketing, Economics or related discipline.
- Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification is highly desirable.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 10 years business development experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Experience in the Nigerian downstream oil and gas sector with knowledge of local market dynamics, regulatory environment and key industry players.
- Proven track record of securing and managing high value contracts and partnerships.
Skills and Competencies
- Strategic thinking and analytical skills to translate market insights into business plans.
- Negotiation and influencing skills to close complex deals.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Leadership qualities to inspire and motivate teams to excel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and business analysis and CRM tools.
- High level of integrity, professionalism and commitment to ethical business practices.
